    As a certified International IB World School, the High School in Neuzelle offers ambitious students with international study plans the opportunity to obtain a joint Abitur and International Baccalaureate (IB) qualification, starting in August 2021.

  • What is the IB DP?

    The Diploma Program of the International Baccalaureate Organization (IB DP) is an academically challenging educational program designed to prepare graduates for both university life and the challenges of our globalised world. In addition, the program emphasises an open mind-set to the world, critical and creative thinking, communication, research and social skills. Graduates of the IB DP have a sound knowledge of independent and scientific work as well as a university accreditation that is recognised by universities worldwide. This gives them a decisive advantage when applying for a place at university both in Germany and abroad, where the IB degree is highly regarded and can be a decisive factor in gaining admission to the most prestigious universities.

    At the heart of the IB Diploma Program is the guiding principle of the independent learner who is able to approach and discuss concepts and ideas in an open-minded and reflective manner. The goal is to educate mindful, character-driven, and knowledgeable young people who maintain an open, respectful, and curious approach to other cultures and traditions. Critical thinking, consideration of diverse perspectives and views, and independent research are at the heart of the IB Diploma graduate's educational experience.

  • How does the double degree work?

    The IB DP is taught over two years, with students taking six courses: three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, providing a broad education in two languages, social and natural sciences, mathematics and the arts.

    In addition to the six courses, the IB DP has three other core components designed to broaden the educational experience and help students apply their knowledge and understanding:

    1. Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS):
      The goal of this subject is to guide students to live creative, active, and social lives by independently engaging in various community service projects. In class, they independently plan the appropriate activities and projects under the guidance of the CAS coordinator.

    2. Theory of Knowledge (TOK):

      Theory of Knowledge (TOK) is a subject with an interdisciplinary approach whose goal is to develop a deeper understanding of how and through what methods knowledge is generated. The subject allows the development of learning approaches and strategies individually for each student. TOK stimulates students' critical thinking and creates respect and awareness towards knowledge content.

    3. Extended Essay (EE):

      The extended essay encourages students to work independently and scientifically. Independent research, in-depth study in a subject area, and the presentation of information and knowledge in a way that is appropriate to the rules and language are the focal points in this area of the IB.

    In the case of the dual Abitur/IB qualification, content is efficiently linked in accordance with the guidelines for upper secondary education in Brandenburg and the IB curriculum requirements, so that students can prepare for both qualifications with a weekly number of approx. 40 hours in grades 11 and 12. Most of the IB subjects are taught in English, while the subjects relevant to the Abitur - German, Economics and Physical Education - are taught in German.

    At the end of the two-year program, in addition to the Abitur exams, students take further written exams that are standardised worldwide and assessed by external IB examiners to ensure the quality of education and compliance with the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) examination standards.

  • Who is the dual degree suitable for?

    The program is particularly suitable for high-achieving students who want to prepare extensively for academic work at university and who are considering future study abroad. Since classes are held in both English and German, applicants must have a good command of both German and English.

  • What are the benefits of the IB DP?

    With the IB DP, students complete a program that provides a broader conception of knowledge and learning and thus offers a sound preparation for academic work at university, which greatly facilitates their start to their studies.

    The Diploma Program offers a high academic level, a transmission of values, requires more independent work and teaches multi-perspective thinking in a global, multicultural context. Students are encouraged to become socially engaged, conduct independent research on topics that truly interest them, and develop a positive attitude towards lifelong learning.

      The double degree offers ideal conditions for this, because this qualification facilitates access to renowned universities all over the world. Graduates can be found at Cambridge and Oxford, King's College London, the London School of Economics (LSE), the London Business School, UCLA (University of California), Maastricht, Heidelberg or WHU.

    1. IB students care about more than just their results.

      We want our students to know that grades alone do not mean the world.
      By participating in the CAS program (Creativity, Action, Service), all IB students engage in extracurricular activities in the areas of creativity, sports and social work. They develop their own ideas, become active and take on responsibility in projects that benefit others.

      We want our students to turn the world on its head.
      They should develop self-confidence and become aware of their own strengths. This includes mastering their first challenges, such as the Extended Essay, which is structured like a seminar paper at university. Finding an interesting topic, researching material, structuring the work and formulating convincing arguments - those who can do this have a very good basis for later study.

      Our students should be prepared for the world.
      No matter where or what they study later - our students should be individually supported to develop their talents. This includes that they can choose subjects with different levels of difficulty. All IB subjects are centrally examined and internationally comparable, which makes it easier for universities to assess students' performance.

      We want our students to be at home in the world.
      Thanks to the multilingualism and international orientation of the degree, graduates also find their way around more quickly when studying abroad.

    1. It encourages critical thinking.

      Our students should turn the world upside down.
      They should think unconventionally, analyse and critically question what they have learned. "How do you know?" is therefore the question most often heard in the Theory of Knowledge course, where cross-curricular topics relevant to future students are discussed.

    1. Students have proven time management skills.

      We don't want our students to let the world get out of sync.
      How do you organise your own learning and work when you no longer live at home? Former students from the dual program have clear advantages in this area, because independence and personal responsibility are repeatedly required here.

    1. It assesses more than examination techniques.

      We want our students to understand the world.
      Through the intensive examination of topics, such as writing the extended essay, teaching content is not just memorised for a short time, but really embedded and internalised.

    1. Subjects are not taught in isolation.

      We want our students to connect the world.
      Only those who can make connections independently can penetrate a subject area. Therefore, especially in Theory of Knowledge, connections are always made between the content of different subjects.

    1. It encourages breadth and depth of learning.

      We want our students to discover the world.
      Therefore, through the wide range of subjects and the preparation for the Abitur and International Baccalaureate, they gain broad knowledge and at the same time have the opportunity to deepen it.
