Music, art and humanistic values: The "Made in Germany" educational concept for Cairo
Our particular focus on music and art in education pervades all work conducted in our nurseries and primary schools in Germany, Europe and in Cairo. This tried-and-tested strategy, "Made in Germany", is also applied in the subsequent schools. Another guarantee of our success: In the Rahn schools in Cairo, we pursue the German curriculum set down by the State of Brandenburg for primary and secondary levels. We have more than 20 years' experience in building and managing schools offering general and vocational education in Egypt, and the quality of our work has been certified!
Our direct link to Leipzig, as a centre of education and culture, the partnership with the grammar school on the Stift Neuzelle campus and cooperation with the Goethe-Institut are merely three examples of the close links that we have established between Egypt and Germany. The crowning objective in our educational offering is our aim to be able to offer our pupils an international university entrance diploma in German from 2017. But for the moment we are pleased to announce that our music school now complements our offering in Cairo.
What makes Rahn Education special?
We are a German school abroad that is wholly financed by a German-based, non-profit education company. We want to maintain our independence of external influences and are thus exclusively financed by school fees, donations and subsidies from the European Foundation for Education and Culture. The quality of the Rahn schools in Cairo is regularly monitored by an independent, German certification agency that in turn is certified by the German Accreditation Council (Deutscher Akkreditierungsrat). We are not politically active, we place emphasis on intercultural communication and are open to all religions. And we are also convinced that a focus on music and art in teaching promotes children's creativity.
A flying start in the Egyptian capital
Rahn Education has been providing advice on educational issues in Egypt for many years and has thus built up a good reputation. In early 2014, numerous parents approached us and asked us to establish a new school in Cairo from the 2014/15 academic year. Their wish was that we should offer teaching according to the German curriculum, offering pupils the values communicated in German schools. We made this request a reality. But a new school does not appear out of thin air in a matter of months. We had many supporters. We are particularly grateful to the Al Ritahj International School, whose name we were able to use in order to initially open our school as a German branch.
Although time was of the essence, we were able to meet all the key requirements for opening the new school from 1 September 2014. In May 2014 we were already able to furnish our school building with an area of approx. 2,200 sqm over four floors. A second school building was opened from the 2016/17 academic year. This enabled two classes to be created in each academic year for classes 1 to 12 and for a kindergarten (with pre-school) to be established on the same site.
German Arab Consulting for Education Ltd., which was established in Cairo several years ago by Rahn Education, has now been reformed under Egyptian corporate law and is now known as Rahn Schulen Kairo, Deutscher Schulverbund Ltd.
