Cooperation with the Rahn Schools in Cairo

As part of the cooperation agreement between the Campus im Stift Neuzelle and the Rahn Schools Cairo, there have been a variety of projects and exchanges between the two locations for years. Rahn Education has been active in Egypt since 1996 and has been running the Rahn Schools Cairo as a German international school in Cairo since 2014. Teaching at the Rahn Schools Cairo is based on the curriculum of the state of Brandenburg; pupils can transfer to the Freie Gymnasium in Neuzelle after year 7, or at the latest after year 10, and take the German Abitur after year 12. The successful cooperation between the Rahn Schools in Cairo and the educational institutions of Rahn Education in Germany enables a special educational bridge that creates space for intercultural encounters and expands cross-border cooperation between educational institutions in Germany and Egypt.

Day of action for tolerance, respect and cosmopolitanism

The campus stood up for tolerance, respect and open-mindedness at a demonstration with 400 participants before the 2024 winter holidays.

Archelauf

The Archelauf is an annual charity run in which donations are collected for the "Arche" self-help project and the "Kids of the Ark - Education for Poor Children in Cape Town" organisation.

The Ark in Cape Town is a self-help project for stranded people and provides a new home for up to 600 people. The residents are involved in various areas such as the kitchen, tailoring, upholstery and childcare. The children are educated at the Ark until the 9th grade, and the best of them can then attend public schools for another 3 years. The “Archelauf” is part of the support for the project, in which pupils raise part of the required school fees for the pupils. The school in the Ark now also receives state support.

The project was brought to Neuzelle by Antje Schneider, a teacher at the campus at Stift Neuzelle, when she visited Cape Town for the first time in 2004 to accompany the exchange students to the DSK (German School Cape Town).

"A couple of teachers worked at the school there and introduced me to the project. My first visit to the Ark was also very moving for me. I was not prepared for such living conditions. First of all - it's safe in the Ark. That's very important in Cape Town. It took some getting used to that all the people were sleeping and living in large dormitories. The cramped conditions, the few personal items that belonged to the residents and yet the immense gratitude for their life in the ark - that really gets to the heart. In the children's dormitories, the only personal items were often a crocheted blanket belonging to one of the "old ladies" from the ark or an old cuddly toy - probably from better times. All other belongings usually fit into a small travelling bag. After my first visit, it took me a few hours to regroup. It only took me a few moments to decide to help this project," says Antje Schneider. "A highlight was in 2016, when Nkululeko Deda from Cape Town, whom we have supported with donations for years, was a guest at our school for six weeks, lived at the boarding school and was able to spend Christmas and New Year's Eve with host families. Very cordial relationships were formed that are still going strong. In the meantime, Nkulu has successfully completed training as a city guide in Cape Town and in 2018 guided a family who were very connected to our school on a trip to Cape Town in South Africa."

The 16th Archelauf 2023 in Neuzelle ended with a record donation. A total of 2344 km were run, the donation totalled 4280€.  We would like to thank a Neuzelle family for their generous individual donation of 1,000.00 €.

228 pupils, 19 teachers and many guests ran for a good cause on 11 July 2023. The Archelauf is part of an 18-year tradition but had to be interrupted for two years due to the coronavirus pandemic. In 2005, the run started with €300 and 150 pupils taking part.

Figure pedestal shadow

A course project by pupils in year 12 of the GK Art programme.

Firstly, drawings were made of the human figure, then a figure was created using clay, focussing on the shadow of the figure during the process. Finally, each figure was presented as a unit on a self-created plinth together with the shadow created.
